Step One- Build your emergency fund

Randy and I had our first Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University. I have to say I am so excited to learn how to manage our money.  Our first assignment is to quickly start and emergency fund of  $1000.00.

Dave Ramsey gave us a lot of food for thought. It is funny how many of the ideas you know, but don’t put into practice.

  • Live within your means or below – How many things are Randy and I doing to help us live beyond our means? The quick trips through McDonald’s because we are too tired from work and We deserve it. I have to change my thinking to we deserve to be debt free!
  • Christmas comes every year on December 25th! Why am I stressed and shocked Christmas is coming? We need to plan better.
  • Become a plastic surgeon- The cheapest education you’ll ever receive. Cut up your credit cards if you have them. You always will have an excuse to use them if you have them!

  • Dave talks about baby steps little things you can do to grow up to financial peace. Peace about my finances is a calming thought.

It works, I have met a thirty something family. They are 10 years our junior and still working to become debt free, but I can imagine they will be there soon and I hope Randy and I aren’t that far behind.

Have a great day! Candy

Mechanic knows best….

I wanted to update you on Lyndsey’s car or should I say “almost Car” we took it to the mechanic and it has some issues that will lead to more expense and we opted not to take the risk. Lyndsey handled it well and the young lady selling it handled it well also, so it all worked out.

Always have a professional look at a used car you would like to buy before it turns into another valuable lesson! The car hunt is back on,

Have a great Sunday, Candy

Buying a used car

Good Morning! Many of you may know My younger daughter is 16 years old. Things have been tight this year and we couldn’t buy Lyndsey a car. It was a struggle for her and me when her friends all turned 16 and the parents bought them a car. Lyndsey took the bull by the horns got herself a job and has earned money for a car. Yesterday, she bought a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire. I am extremely proud and I think she will appreciate it more since she earned it herself. We have the car for a few days to get it inspected and pending that.

Tips for buying a used car

  1. Check the Vehicle Identification on carfax– this will let you know if the car has ever had an accident or problems with the car.
  2. Check the Kelley Blue Book for the pricing of the car you are looking at.
  3. Take your car to a mechanic before you purchase the vehicle so you don’t have any surprises. When buying a used car it is going to have things go wrong, but it is better to have a heads up at what you are looking at.
  4. Look in the glove box for oil change and maintenance records.
  5. I have found a used car buying checklist click here
  6. Check with your insurance agent for insurance pricing before you do purchase.

I’ll let you know this weekend if she is a car owner. Candy

Happy Fall!

A Prayer for Pumpkin People
While cutting off the top of the pumpkin, pray,
“Lord open my mind so I can learn new things about you.”(Proverbs 1:7)

While making eyes, pray,
“Open my eyes to see the beauty you’ve made in the world around me.” (Psalm 104:24)

While making the nose, pray,
“I’m sorry for the times I’ve turned up my nose at your many gifts.” (James 1:17)

While making the mouth, pray,
“Let everything I say please you.” (Psalm 19:14)

While lighting the candle, pray,
“Lord, help me show your light to others through the things I do.” (Matthew 5:16)

I had a friend send this to me and it made me think I want to be a better person. Serving God in thought, word and deed. I wanted to share.

Have a great Fall Day and God’s Blessings! Candy

Looking for a money tree….

When I was a kid I can remember my dad saying “what do you think money goes on trees?” I know there isn’t a money tree, but I am looking for ways to grow my money. For most of my life I have settled;  never expecting more than what I have. I am starting to think I need to dream bigger. I can’t say being frugal is always easy and sometimes I don’t always make the best decisions, but I am learning and looking to have a tree more like this:

Sunday, Randy and I start our Financial Peace University with Dave Ramsey. I want to learn how to make my money grow. I have been hearing about Dave Ramsey for a while now and about a month ago I talk with a family that has lived it and it works. I can’t wait to share what I am learning and am looking for a life changing moment.

Thank you to all who attended our Frugal class at the Oregon Library. Here is the Fabric Softener recipe, I promised.

God’s Blessings, Candy

Stop,Look and Enjoy…

Wow! It’s beginning to look like fall. I did a search of fall pictures and found this one. I want to jump into the picture and sit a while. Fall is my favorite time of the year. God’s artwork all around. I remember a while back I was sitting in my car waiting for Lyndsey to finish her piano lesson and the leaves were gentle gliding down like colorful confetti. Peaceful until you have to rake.

I want to try to stop and enjoy this time of the year. I think we get so caught up in life we don’t stop and enjoy the color.

I love all the beautiful colors all around.
The wind as it catches leaves and they glide to the ground.
Big piles of leaves to jump in all gathered into a mound
God’s artwork is abound!

Have a blessed day, Candy
